This month, our team here at Atlas Lexington had the pleasure of sitting down with Roy Johnson Pressley III, an account manager on our team. Pressley is from Lawrenceville, Georgia and has been with the company since October of 2018
Did you always live in Lawrenceville?
“No, I moved from Savannah, Georgia to Nashville, Tennessee to Seneca, South Carolina and finally settled down in South Carolina until my junior year of high school, then moved and finished schooling in Ohatchee, Alabama.”
What was your childhood like? What were you like as a kid?
“My parents would have described me as a very energetic, passionate and caring. I always used to be the dorky little kid who cared about anyone and everything, on the flip side I was extremely shy with people. I played two years of little league baseball for the Mariners, and I graduated as an eagle scout in boy scouts.”
Wow, you were an ambitious kid. How did that competitive environment develop you?
“Those aspects of my life really helped me develop all around, my confidence and drive definitely took a turn for the best and the scouts helped me develop skills and personal traits that I’ve carried with me throughout my life.”
Did you think you would end up in this field when you were young?
“Looking back to when I was a kid when career day came, it boiled down to the teacher asking what we wanted to be when we grew up. I told the class I would wear a suit every day and run a company but growing up I never imagined I would make the transition from construction to sales like I did.”
Tell us about the work you did before joining our team.
“I worked pretty much every aspect of construction you could imagine. Everything from renovations and disaster repair, to industrial electrical and everything in between. I’ve built three houses and an apartment complex from the ground up with my crew of only four men. I also have experience in making the logos for the NFL such as the 200-foot banners on the fencing around the fields, down to the wrapping around the field goal posts.”
Tell us about one life experience that changed you.
“My daughter’s birth really changed my life. I’ve always had a strong work ethic, but when she came into my life, I had more passion and drive then I’ve ever had before. I want to make the best life I possibly can for her.”
What might we not know about you by simply looking?
“You might not take me as someone who had to fight or had any struggle in life. I usually look for the positives and I deal with trouble very well. I am very adaptive in a sense. When I come into an issue, I can find solutions. I think that the situation I was put in growing up made me a stronger person and it helps me empathize with people.”
When did you officially start with the company?
“I started October 2nd, 2018.”
What were your first thoughts when joining the team?
“My first thought when I walked in was, did I make the right decision coming in? At the time, I turned down a construction contract for $21/hr and I was terrified of taking the leap of faith and stepping out of my comfort zone. The first thing I noticed that was unique, in my opinion, was that everyone seemed to be absolutely happy with their jobs, something you don’t see too often.”
How would you describe our culture?
“I would describe our culture as one big diverse family, we hold each other up and I believe that’s what makes us strong.”
What has been your best memory with the company?
“My best memory would have to be the first time I had a team night, I felt like I was with family, not co-workers!”
What have you learned through this career that you didn’t know before?
“I learned every aspect of sales and how to better communicate with people both in and out of the field. This career change has made me a more personable person and taught me how to maintain my attitude regardless of the situation. In turn, it’s made me a better person all around.”
What are your goals with the company?
“My goals are to not only build a strong, well-organized company of my own, but to better the lives of the members of my team as much as I can.”
Do you have any mentors in the office?
“I have to give Nathan props for taking me under his wing and showing me the ropes, so I consider him a mentor in my life.”
What do you do for fun when you’re not working?
“I love spending time with my little princess, we have tons of adventures and I wouldn’t trade our time for anything, I’m also an active person, I usually always have something fun to do.”
